Gold Label Reserve

18 years
Emma Walker, Johnnie Walker's first female master blender since 2022, created Black Ruby as a major innovation within the brand's 200-year blending legacy. This is not a marginal variant but a deliberate shift: where Black Label is austere and rich, Black Ruby leans sweeter and fruitier, broadening appeal without sacrificing depth.
The blend's architecture reflects that ambition. Roseisle, Diageo's progressive Speyside distillery on the Moray coast, supplies malts aged in first-use red wine casks—a bold move that introduces dark stone fruit and stewed berry layers. PX and Oloroso casks join ex-bourbon barrels, layering cherry and red berry notes with silky texture and subtle spice.
On the nose: honey and sweet fruit. The palate follows with berry and cherry, crisp and balanced rather than heavy. The finish stays elegant and restrained—exactly what a blended whisky should do. This is built for cocktails, but it's also a straightforward dram for anyone who finds Black Label too stern.
