A'bunadh means 'the original' in Gaelic, and Alba refers to Scotland itself. This expression reveals a different side of Aberlour than the famous sherry-matured A'bunadh: fully aged in ex-bourbon casks, without the heavy sherry influence. Batch 007 is bottled at cask strength (58.9%), preserving the full character of the matured spirit.
The bourbon casks deliver a cleaner profile than its sherry-matured sibling. Vanilla, honey and cinnamon provide warmth, while citrus notes and ripe red apples add freshness. The texture is creamy despite the high alcohol—no burning sensation, but a pleasant warming effect.
On the palate, the whisky feels full and soft, with white pepper and dry oak tones that never dominate. The finish is medium-length, with subtle citrus lingering. This is Aberlour stripped of its traditional sherry-cask identity—a different facet of a classic Speyside distillery.
