The Whistler Irish
Famous Grouse The Black Grouse Alpha Edition
The Famous Grouse was established in 1896 by Matthew Gloag & Son in Perth and became one of Scotland's most recognizable blended whiskies. The Black Grouse Alpha Edition reimagines the classic blend with a pronounced shift toward peated Islay character — this is not a subtle tweak but a deliberate pivot toward smoke and intensity.
The recipe builds on the original foundation (Glenturret, Macallan, Highland Park) but introduces a higher proportion of peated Islay malts, with older, more mature stocks throughout. The result is noticeably deeper and more structured than the standard Black Grouse.
On the nose, smoke leads with a sweet undercurrent; ginger, pepper, and a charred-oak note follow. The palate brings fruity sweetness, almond, and caramel, but grainy and peaty elements push through toward a short, malty finish marked by hints of charcoal and toffee.
