2009 Aird Mhor The Single Malts of
The Firkin
The Firkin is the brainchild of Mike Collings, an industry legend who architected Johnnie Walker Blue Label. Founded in 2017, Firkin Whisky Co pursues an unconventional vision: marrying Japanese sensibilities with Scottish craftsmanship. Despite its name—a nod to small cask sizes—Firkin works with full-size casks and pairs single malts with fortified wines and bespoke oak selections, creating something that defies category.
This ten-year-old Speyside single malt, bottled at 48.9% ABV, embodies Firkin's philosophy of artisanal experimentation. The approach yields a whisky that resists easy comparison.
On the nose: dry orchard fruit, citrus peel, vanilla, and hints of coconut and mushroom. The palate opens spicy and warm, with virgin French oak asserting itself clearly, followed by stewed apple, pear, and soft honey notes. The finish is medium-length and gently warming, with a touch of smoke and salinity that lingers pleasantly.
