Anthony Wills founded Kilchoman on Islay's west coast in 2005, during an era when new single malt distilleries on the island were rare. Batch Strength is a core expression that reflects his philosophy: cask selection that showcases the distillery's full character.
This whisky matured in a trio of cask types: ex-bourbon barrels, oloroso sherry butts, and re-charred red wine casks. The combination delivers dark fruits and rich spices alongside Kilchoman's natural peat smoke. Bottled at 57% ABV without chill-filtration, it retains full flavour intensity.
On the nose, peat smoke emerges with citrus and toasted wood. The palate is creamy and full-bodied, with spicy warmth from the strength, followed by a finish where coastal character and oak grow increasingly prominent. A dram that holds back on the first nosing, gradually revealing its complexity.
