Sherry Oak

4.4 out of 5 (2 reviews)

Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and schoolteacher, founded The Macallan in 1824 on the banks of the River Spey. From the outset, the distillery distinguished itself through an unconventional choice: maturation exclusively in sherry casks from Jerez, Spain. The Macallan was even the first distillery to specify particular European oak species for sherry casks. This tradition underpins the Sherry Oak expression.

This 12-year-old single malt has matured entirely in hand-selected ex-sherry casks. The result is a whisky with deep mahogany hues and a preference for rich, dry fruit over sharp alcohol or aggressive oak.

On the nose, dried raisins and spice dominate, with hints of orange peel and floral notes. On the palate, oak adds subtle pepper and cinnamon, while honey and ginger temper any harshness. The finish lingers long and gently, without demanding attention.
