Gold Reserve Celebration
Snow Grouse arrived in 2008 as a playful winter expression of the Famous Grouse blend, designed to be served straight from the freezer — a deliberate departure from whisky tradition. The bottling uses grain whisky as its primary component, offering a lighter, more approachable take on the Famous Grouse formula.
Like its sibling, Snow Grouse draws from a blend of whiskies across Scotland's Lowland, Highland, Speyside, and Island regions, with a significant portion matured in sherry-seasoned Spanish oak casks. This cask influence brings toffee and caramel character to the spirit.
On the nose, Snow Grouse presents caramel and vanilla in straightforward fashion, lacking the complexity of its older counterpart. The palate follows with soft butter and caramel, but the profile remains uncomplicated — a direct result of the grain whisky base. The finish is short and clean, almost vodka-like in its brevity.
This is not a whisky for contemplation. Snow Grouse succeeds precisely as intended: a light, unpretentious dram that works best served cold and without ceremony.
