Bladnoch's journey spans two centuries of turbulence. Founded in 1817, the distillery thrived for a century before facing decades of ownership changes and closures. In 2015, Australian entrepreneur David Prior acquired the dormant operation and restarted production in 2017, breathing new life into Scotland's most southerly distillery.
This 10-year-old was matured in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 46.7% ABV — a strength Bladnoch maintains to preserve character. It represents one of the few remaining traditional Lowland expressions: soft and rounded on the nose, with vanilla cream and canned stone fruit, yet punchy underneath with citrus and apple acidity that prevents flatness.
The palate marries lemon and malt in a medium body — neither heavy nor thin. Red berries and dry fruit notes provide texture; oak sits lightly on the finish without dominating. This is unadorned Lowland craft: balanced, traditional, and proof that David Prior's gamble on a forgotten distillery was well placed.
