Kilchoman was founded in 2005 by Anthony Wills and stands as the first new distillery built on Islay in over 120 years. Perched on the island's western edge, it ranks among Scotland's smallest distilleries and operates as one of the country's rare farm distilleries — much of its barley grows on-site. The philosophy is simple: 'Taking whisky back to its roots'.
This Small Batch release for the Netherlands blends spirit from three cask types: 70% ex-bourbon, 5% oloroso, and 25% Madeira. The combination yields a young, spicy whisky where sherry influence plays a supporting role, never overwhelming Islay's characteristic peat and iodine.
On the nose: medicinal peat and iodine, joined by white pepper and nutmeg. The palate arrives sharp and smoky—smoked paprika, smoked ginger—but underpinned by a candy-like sweetness that rounds the edges. The finish is long and intense, anchored in that distinctive Islay character.
