Kamiki emerged from a spiritual concept: its name means 'God's Breath', inspired by the pure breezes descending from Miwa Mountain, the Mountain of God in Nara. This ancient Japanese capital, protected by Omiwa priests, inspired Yoshino Spirits Co. to craft a blended malt combining Japanese and international whiskies. What truly sets Kamiki Sakura Wood apart is its use of Yoshino Sugi—Japanese cedar—for finishing. This is globally unique: no other whisky brand works with this distinctive Japanese timber.
After maturation in American oak, the whisky undergoes a secondary aging in these cedar casks, creating a highly specific aromatic signature. The result is fuller and creamier than typical blended malts, with a complex interplay between wood and spirit.
On the nose, ripe banana, chestnut, and cinnamon emerge, with a subtle cedar undertone. The palate reveals an intense woody core—sandalwood and Japanese cedar notes—followed by gentle sakura-flower sweetness and baking spice. The finish is floral and spring-like, with smoldering cherry notes that fade slowly into the cedar's lingering warmth.
