Johnnie Walker Double Black is the smoky rebellion within the Johnnie Walker family. Where Black Label maintains the house's classic, balanced signature, Double Black deliberately amplifies the smoke and intensity. It sources heavily peated malts from Scotland's west coast and Islay—including Caol Ila—and matures them in deeply charred oak casks, letting the peat and char dominate the profile.

The blend makes no apologies. Smoke hits the nose first, backed by malty grain and spice. On the palate, sweetness emerges—vanilla and caramel—but it's constantly interrupted by a smouldering, coal-fire warmth that refuses to fade. The finish lingers long, with dried spices and that persistent, brooding peat.

This isn't a complex, multi-layered blend in the single-malt sense—it's more direct, less nuanced. But that's by design: a full-bodied, straightforward smoky dram that opens up with water, softening the edges and allowing the layered peat and spice to breathe.
