Wild Turkey 101 takes its name from a 1940 hunting trip in South Carolina, when an Austin Nichols distillery executive brought bottles of bourbon to share with friends. They kept asking for more of "that wild turkey bourbon," and the brand was born. That founding story—rooted in a simple gesture of generosity among sportsmen—still defines the whiskey today.

The recipe drives the character: 75% corn, 13% rye, and 12% malted barley, aged 6 to 8 years in heavily charred new American oak. The high rye content delivers the signature spice, amplified by bottling at cask strength (50.5% ABV) without dilution.

On the nose, allspice and cloves emerge first, followed by caramel and toasted oak. The palate brings peppery heat and cinnamon, with creamy molasses and vanilla underneath. The finish is long and warm, spice lingering without harshness. This is bourbon stripped of marketing—direct, full-flavored, and unapologetic.
