Togouchi Kiwami is a fully Japanese blended whisky from Sakurao Distillery in Hiroshima, entirely composed of the distillery's own spirit since 2022. The name 'Kiwami' translates to 'pure' or 'perfect' in Japanese—a nod to the masterblender's meticulous selection of grain and malt whiskies.
The blend combines grain whisky with lightly peated malt aged 3–9 years, then finished in sake casks that Sakurao has used for its own sake production. This finishing imparts subtle umami-driven sweetness and a soft minerality distinctive to the house style.
The nose opens with delicate vanilla, nuts, and light fruit. The palate is silky, offering milk chocolate, spice, and white fruit character, leading to a long, woody finish with gentle warmth. This is a whisky that reflects the maker's patience and intent—not a loud statement, but a focused, balanced expression that marries Japanese distilling tradition with considered blending craft.
