Compass Box was founded in 2000 by John Glaser as an independent blender based at Great King Street in Edinburgh. The Glasgow Blend pays homage to the historical taste preferences of Glasgow whisky drinkers—a composition that is rich, smoky, and spicy. It combines 33% grain whisky from the Lowlands with 67% malt whisky from the Highlands, Speyside, and Islay, including a significant portion of Laphroaig. These components are matured in Oloroso sherry casks and other vessels, defining its full, sweet character.
The nose reveals buttery notes, a light but detectable peat smoke, maltiness, vanilla, and citrus fruits. On the palate, sherry sweetness comes to the fore—warm and mouth-coating—with butterscotch and toffee apple, underpinned by the subtle peaty undertone from the Islay malts. The finish is relatively short, with a mellow impression where hints of liquorice and a touch of harshness can emerge, yet the overall tone remains sweet and soft.
