Nikka Pure Malt Taketsuru
Taketsuru Pure Malt takes its name from Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Japanese whisky. He studied distilling in Scotland before bringing that expertise back to Japan to establish Nikka. This blended malt marries single malts from Nikka's two flagship distilleries: Miyagikyo and Yoichi. Each contributes its own character—Miyagikyo's softer, fruity signature alongside Yoichi's more robust structure.
The blend is predominantly Miyagikyo with Yoichi in support, matured for around ten years on average in sherry and refill casks. This composition delivers depth without overwhelming the palate.
On the nose, bright fruit emerges—pear, banana, and citrus—alongside honey and vanilla oak notes. The palate is soft and layered, with light spice, toasted grain, and a creamy mouthfeel. The finish is warm and gently fading, leaving a trace of toast and subtle smoke.
