Ardmore was founded in 1898 by Adam Teacher, whose family had already built a reputation in whisky blending. The distillery sits in Kennethmont, on the Highland fringe, and is distinguished by its commitment to tradition — it is the only distillery in the region that peats its entire core range. The peat, sourced from the Scottish Highlands, imparts Ardmore's characteristic light smoky signature.
Legacy undergoes double maturation: first in bourbon casks, then in smaller quarter casks. This layered approach adds complexity without overwhelming the spirit. Bottled at 40% and without chill filtration, the whisky retains its natural flavours and body.
On the nose, gentle smoke and sweetness mingle — honey, light peat, and cereal grains. The palate is medium-bodied and silky, with charred oak, pear drops, and subtle herbal notes emerging alongside a vague vanilla sweetness. The finish is dry and undemanding, lacking drama but offering quiet balance. This is an approachable dram, built for discovery rather than intimidation.
