Johnnie Walker Black Label was originally named 'Old Highland Whisky' when Alexander Walker created the blend in 1865. This was no accident—the formula was designed to capture the character of Highland distilleries, and that focus remains. This Highlands Origin expression emphasizes that legacy by anchoring the blend in whiskies from the Highland region.
Each bottle contains whiskies aged a minimum of 12 years in cask. Johnnie Walker guards its recipe closely, but the blend combines carefully selected single malts and grains to achieve a consistent profile—something John Walker himself started pursuing in 1820 when he noticed that different barrels produced different flavours.
On the nose, soft peat, sweet honey, and orchard fruit—apple and pear. The palate unfolds with vanilla and honey, subtly balanced by citrus and gentle pepper. The finish leaves spice and oak behind, warming and slowly fading.
