The Black Grouse

Thompson Bros. TB/BSW
Maclean's Nose
Maclean's Nose takes its name from a wild headland rising from the sea near Ardnamurchan Distillery—and pays tribute to Charlie MacLean, the renowned whisky writer and sensory mentor to Adelphi, the independent bottler behind this release. The three MacLean sons, Ewan, Jamie, and Lachlan, are woven into the project, connecting this blend to one of Scotland's oldest whisky families.
The composition is striking: 70% malt, 30% grain, with a substantial portion of the malt matured in ex-sherry casks, delivering full body and texture unusual at this price point. Non-chill-filtered and naturally coloured, bottled at 46% ABV.
On the nose: rich, savoury-sweet character—thick caramel, toasted malt, browned butter, with orange and dark fruit threading through. The palate is oily and supple, balancing sweetness against briny minerality: lemon, oysters, seaweed, white wine notes, grounded by ash and pine tar. Warm spice and dried fruit linger into a satisfying finish.
