Tamdhu closed its doors in 2010, but under new ownership by Ian MacLeod, the distillery underwent complete renovation and reopened with a visitor centre. That investment has paid off: Tamdhu has become a favourite among sherry-cask enthusiasts. The 12-year-old expression matured entirely in first-fill and refill Oloroso casks from Jerez, a choice that shapes its character decisively.

This Speyside single malt displays the signature richness of sherry maturation: roasted notes, spices like cinnamon and clove, and a full, silky texture. The nose opens with dried fruit, citrus, and vanilla; the palate brings those same dried-fruit notes together with toffee and oak. The finish is long and soft, with citrus and a hint of salt that balances the sherry's sweetness.

An approachable introduction to sherry-matured Speyside, unpretentious yet genuinely flavourful.
