18Y Fine Oak
The Macallan was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, a teacher and farmer, on the banks of the River Spey in Speyside. The Fine Oak series marked a turning point in the distillery's history: for the first time, Macallan introduced bourbon-cask-matured whisky alongside its traditional sherry-cask heritage. This 18-year-old expression bridges both approaches, with American bourbon casks and European sherry casks working in tandem.
The whisky matures in a blend of sherry-seasoned European oak and American bourbon casks. This combination brings greater lightness and elegance than Macallan's classically sherry-dominant profile, without surrendering its characteristic depth.
In the glass, a mahogany-hued dram reveals notes of dried fruits, ginger, and honey. The palate is pleasantly sweet and restrained in spice, with texture that is present but not heavy. The finish remains warm and smooth, with subtle spiciness from the bourbon casks lingering without dominating.
