Single Barrel
Yellow Rose Distilling was founded in 2010 by neighbors Ryan Baird and Troy Smith, who set out to establish Houston's first legal whiskey distillery. The name honours the Yellow Rose of Texas, a legendary figure in American folklore tied to Sam Houston's 1836 victory at San Jacinto. This Yellow Rose Rye pays homage to the pre-Prohibition era, when rye was a cornerstone of American whiskey production.
The mashbill is 95% rye and 5% malted barley – an unusually aggressive rye-forward composition that sets this whiskey apart. This high rye content drives the spirit's distinctive bite and spice.
On the nose, expect white pepper, vanilla, and toasted oak with a hint of sweetness. The palate is dry and peppery, rich with rye spice, tropical fruit notes, and green herbs. The finish is medium-long, with lingering black pepper and woody character. This is an uncompromising rye – bold, sharp-edged, and built for those who seek straightforward heat and grain-driven complexity.
