Säntis Malt takes its name from the highest peak in the Alpstein range, a mountain massif in Switzerland's Appenzell region. The whisky is produced by Brauerei Locher, where master brewer Karl Locher turned to whisky production after cereal spirit distillation restrictions were lifted. Each expression in the Alpstein series is named after a different rock formation within the same mountain range.

The Alpstein is matured in historical oak beer casks — an unconventional choice that defines Säntis's identity. These century-old brewery vessels impart a distinctive character unavailable from standard spirit casks. Bottled at 48% ABV without reduction.
