The Glendronach distillery was founded in 1826 by James Allardice in the Valley of Forgue, a remote Highland glen. The name itself is a direct tribute to the village that surrounds it. Despite a devastating fire just eleven years after its establishment, the distillery survived and eventually became renowned among London's aristocracy.
The 12 Year Old Original is matured in a combination of ex-Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, giving this whisky its distinctive sherried character. This cask strategy exemplifies why Glendronach is celebrated for producing some of Scotland's most profoundly sherried Highland single malts.
