Blended
The Broody Hen takes its name from a 17th-century Scottish secret: when taxation on spirits climbed steeply, illicit distillers went to extraordinary lengths to hide their casks. The name playfully invokes those clandestine days, when a brooding hen became a symbol for concealed contraband. This blended Scotch is mixed and bottled on-site at Summerhall Distillery, a project born from founders Matt Gammel and Marcus.
The blend marries malt and grain whisky into an approachable character. At 40% ABV, it arrives smooth and unpretentious, without harsh edges.
On the nose: delicate honey, butterscotch, and a whisper of floral citrus. The palate unfolds caramel, vanilla, and manuka honey sweetness. The finish is gentle and refreshing — a whisky equally at home as an aperitif or a quiet dram.
