1998 Calvados Cask Finish Fèis Ìle 2022
About
This Fèis Ìle 2022 edition represents a rare collaboration between Bunnahabhain and Islay's festival. Distilled in October 1998, the spirit spent over two decades in ex-bourbon casks before a final stint in French Calvados casks — an unexpected finishing choice that marries Bunnahabhain's coastal, understated character with orchard fruit and confectionery sweetness. The nose balances cut yellow apples, pear drops, and toffee with a floral undertone and hints of moss. On the palate, green apple and pear lead, followed by dried fruit and a creamy, buttery midpalate that turns lightly tannic and vinous. The finish is long and spicy, with toffee and a dry, slate-like aftertaste. This is Bunnahabhain at its most refined — no peat dominance, but rather a thoughtful balance between Islay's maritime influence and the orchard-fruit sweetness Calvados imparts. A whisky that rewards patience and rewards those who prefer subtlety.
