Tomatin was established in 1897 at 315 metres elevation in the Monadhliath mountains, making it one of Scotland's highest distilleries. Its name derives from the Gaelic 'Tom aitinn'—'Hill of the Juniper Bush'—a nod to the botanicals historically present in the region. Though Tomatin primarily supplies blended whiskies, only a small portion is released as single malt.

This 18-year expression matured first in refill oak before a secondary finish of approximately 18 months in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks. Unchillfiltered and bottled at 46% ABV, it retains full flavour intensity.

On the nose, dark dried fruits emerge—sultanas, raisins, canned peaches—layered with winter spices: cloves, cinnamon, and a subtle smokiness. The palate is full and sweet, with dark chocolate, honeyed notes, and vanilla fudge balanced by oak grip. The finish extends long, echoing dark chocolate and malt with a pleasant drying oak backbone.
