2013 Signatory Vintage
Signatory Vintage is an independent bottler founded in 1988 by Andrew Symington, who developed his passion for single malt while managing Edinburgh's prestigious Prestonfield House Hotel. The company is recognized for its unpretentious approach and distinctive cask policy: all whiskies are bottled at natural cask strength without dilution. This 2013 Speyside single malt, matured for ten years in first-fill sherry casks, exemplifies Signatory's preference for Oloroso wood — a hallmark that defines the house's character.
The nose opens with red berries, particularly raspberries, alongside spice notes of cloves and nutmeg, with hints of dark chocolate and oak. The palate is cleaner than the sherry-forward profile might suggest, revealing tropical fruit and citrus alongside a subtle oakiness that never tips into dominance. The finish remains structured and dry, avoiding the heaviness that can plague sherry-matured malts.
