Timorous Beastie Limited Edition Douglas Laing
Timorous Beastie takes its name from the opening of Robert Burns' celebrated 1785 poem 'To a Mouse'—a tale of a Scottish ploughman who accidentally destroyed a field mouse's nest, immortalizing the creature's terror in verse. Douglas Laing, the independent bottler founded in 1948, adopted the name for their Highland Blended Malt with deliberate irony: this whisky is anything but timid.
The blend marries carefully selected single malts from Scotland's Highlands, drawing on Glen Garioch, Blair Athol, Dalmore, and Glengoyne. Bottled without chill filtration and free of added colour or flavouring, it preserves the natural character of its constituent malts.
On the nose, it greets with pronounced sweetness—ripe fruit, honey, and vanilla, deepening into floral and heathery undertones. The palate is bold and approachable: fruity and soft, with green apple, apricot, and a subtle spice that melts into malt and caramel. The finish is gentle but lingering, with fudge-like sweetness and a whisper of oak.
