18 Years
Glen Elgin was founded in 1898 by William Simpson, a former manager at Glenfarclas, and banker James Carle—a partnership that arrived at the tail end of the Victorian whisky boom. For decades, Glen Elgin remained quietly instrumental as a blending workhorse for major producers, but this 18-year expression reveals the distillery's own character.
Matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and sherry casks, the whisky strikes a balance between sweetness and dryness. The nose opens with pear and apricot, floral touches, vanilla, and butter. The palate is creamy and full, bringing citrus fruits, white coffee, and caramel, with a waxy mid-palate texture. The finish turns spicy and drying, with black pepper and a lingering malt sweetness.
This is a Speyside malt that stands on its own merits—proof that Glen Elgin is far more than a footnote in other people's blends.
