12 years Rye

WhistlePig was founded in 2007 with the mission to restore rye whiskey to prominence in premium American spirits. This 12-year Old World Rye exemplifies that ambition: 95% Canadian rye, aged twelve years in new American oak, then split across three European wine casks. The majority (63%) finishes in Madeira, supplemented by Sauternes (30%) and Port (7%) – an unconventional marriage of American grain and Old World cask tradition.

This blend of American whiskey and European wine finishes produces something unexpected. The nose reveals rye spice and malty character, while the palate unfolds with apple, cinnamon, clove, and white pepper. Honey and dark chocolate provide warmth, and oak remains present without overwhelming. The finish is relatively brief but lingers with minty, menthol-tinged notes and a whisper of rye spice.
