Dalmore named this whisky Valour to honour Colin of Kintail, a Mackenzie clan ancestor who, during a hunting expedition around 1263, saved King Alexander from a wild beast. The distillery itself was founded in 1839 by Alexander Matheson, a merchant adventurer intent on crafting an exceptional single malt.
Valour matured in ex-bourbon casks and finished in Port pipes—a pairing that builds a full, sweet character. At 40% ABV, it's an approachable dram without cask-strength intensity.
The nose opens with red berries, blood orange, and a pronounced Port influence, rounded out by caramel and honey. The palate is sweet and creamy, with malt and a whisper of spice, though the sherry influence remains understated. The finish is short but warm, edged with dark chocolate and a gentle bitterness that brings the profile to a close.
