Cardhu's character is rooted in a remarkable heritage. In 1811, John and Helen Cumming took over the Cardow estate; Helen became known as 'The First Woman of Whisky'. Their daughter-in-law Elizabeth carried that legacy forward, establishing Cardhu as a respected name in Speyside. The distillery, officially licensed in 1824, sits high in the Mannoch Hills overlooking the River Spey.

Cardhu matures exclusively in refill casks — a deliberate choice to keep wood influence subtle and restrained. The result is a silky, approachable whisky that doesn't overwhelm but makes its presence felt. The distinctive bottle with its beechwood stopper is instantly recognisable.

On the nose, fresh floral notes emerge alongside honey and light spice. The palate mirrors that elegance: soft, sweet, with apple-like fruit that slides smoothly across the tongue. The finish brings a dry, smoky edge that surprises without dominating — enough to tie the whole picture together.

This is not a whisky that demands close study, but rather a welcoming glass that reveals itself with each sip.
