Dewar's The Ancestor
The Family Reserve
Grant's Family Reserve has been the blended Scotch recipe of William Grant since 1898, when the distillery founder first began selling his blend a dozen years after establishing Glenfiddich. What started as a single formula is now, five generations on, one of the world's best-selling blends—enjoyed in over 180 countries. At its heart lies Girvan grain whisky, supplemented by approximately 25 single malt and grain whiskies.
This bottling draws on three cask types: virgin oak for spicy robustness, American oak for subtle vanilla, and ex-bourbon casks. That combination delivers its characteristic balance between fruited sweetness and toasty oak.
On the nose: barley, vanilla, oak, and light smoke. The palate shows custard apple and toffee, with hints of honeycomb and grain. The finish is clean and dry, without pretense. This is a blend that doesn't chase complexity, but instead relies on consistency and accessibility—a workhorse for everyday drinking.
