Blended

5.0 out of 5 (1 review)

Akashi Blended carries the distinction of coming from Japan's first licensed whisky distillery. Founded in 1888 on the shores of the Seto Inland Sea, Eigashima Shuzo received its whisky licence in 1919 and remains one of Japan's smallest producers. Master blender Mikio Hiraishi oversees production, with whisky made for just two months each year by a team of five—the rest of the year devoted to sake and shochu.

This blend marries grain and malt whisky matured in ex-bourbon, sherry, and Japanese oak casks. After roughly 5.5 years, it achieves an approachable yet layered character that avoids simplicity.

Light and gently sweet, it opens with toffee and red berry notes. The nose carries baked bread and malt; the palate reveals cereal, almond, and a whisper of sea salt. The finish persists with subtle spice and soft tannins that fade gradually.
