Podium

Kavalan named its distillery after the indigenous people who once inhabited the Yilan Plain. When founder Tien-Tsai Lee established Taiwan's first whisky distillery in 2005, he deliberately chose a site where snowmelt from Snow Mountain purifies the water and tropical humidity accelerates maturation.

Podium is a non-age statement single malt, matured in a combination of sherry and bourbon casks with some refill wood. This blend produces a whisky marked by evident oak influence and honeyed warmth, with a peppery, spicy edge that demands attention. At 46% ABV, it delivers heat without overwhelming.

On the nose, vanilla cream, floral honey and subtle coconut emerge alongside papaya. The palate is challenging and assertive: red pepper, oak shavings and a pronounced salmiak note give this dram real weight and structure. It leans spicy rather than fruity, with a medium-length finish that retains sweetness throughout.
