Talisker was founded in 1830 by brothers Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill on the Isle of Skye, named after their estate. The distillery is defined by its distinctive character: extended fermentation (minimum 65 hours), worm condensers, and smoked malt that establish Talisker's signature blend of smoke and coastal air.
This 11-year-old Special Release was matured in bourbon casks and bottled at cask strength (55.1% ABV). Talisker's Special Release series is known for experimental approaches to uncommon cask types and finishing techniques, creating unique variants that extend beyond the core range.
On the nose, earthy peat mingles with briny sea air and salt spray, brightened by citrus and orchard fruit. The palate is powerful and oily, with pronounced charred peat smoke, hints of liquorice and rooty notes, plus savoury character. The finish is long and smoky, with woody edges that reflect its bourbon maturation—a staccato intensity that lingers.
