Longmorn was founded in 1893 by John Duff, an ambitious Speyside distiller who later became one of the 19th century's most influential whisky entrepreneurs. The distillery takes its name from the farm where whisky production began. This 16-year-old single malt is matured in sherry casks and bottled at 48% ABV, delivering a dense, oily mouthfeel.
The nose reveals orchard fruit—particularly Granny Smith apple—alongside honey, floral notes, and a hint of yeast. Lemon zest and butter emerge with time. On the palate, warm baking spices, ginger, and spiced marmalade develop, supported by a dry oakiness and notable tannins. The finish is long and clean, leaving the mouth coated with a pleasant oily layer.
This is a whisky that reveals itself slowly. Complexity builds with each sip, with sensations delivered subtly rather than boldly. The sherry maturation adds vinous depth without overwhelming the spirit's underlying character—a mark of restrained, patient distilling.
