Talisker was founded in 1830 by brothers Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill on the Isle of Skye, one of only two distilleries on this rugged Hebridean island. The Distillers Edition sits within the celebrated 'Classic Malts of Scotland' range and showcases Talisker's signature character: a peated single malt with pronounced maritime and peppery notes.
This expression is first matured for ten years in ex-bourbon casks, after which the Master Distiller selects a portion to be finished in casks previously used for Amoroso sherry. This secondary maturation adds layers of sweetness and fruit without overwhelming the whisky's core identity. The result is a measured interplay between the smoky, saline island character and the warmth of the sherry cask finish.
On the nose: honey, dried fruit, and apple emerge before clean peat, white pepper, and saline notes. The palate balances burnt apple, caramel, and light smoke with a gentle spice. A long finish lingers with pepper, vanilla, and sea spray. This is Talisker with refinement—more rounded than its younger sibling, yet retaining its distinctive smoky spine.
