In 1972, Suntory established the Chita distillery on the Chita Peninsula in Japan's Aichi Prefecture — a deliberate location in the nation's center, where fermentation and distillation traditions run deep. Chita is the 'dashi' of Suntory's blends: the clean, versatile broth that creates harmony in larger compositions. The distillery produces three distinct character profiles — clean, medium, and heavy — using continuous-column distillation.
This expression blends grain whiskies matured across three cask types: ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, and ex-wine casks. That trio delivers balance: neither heavy nor assertive, but refined enough to sip neat, flexible enough for highballs and summer serves.
On the nose: honey and fresh-cut hay with a soft sherry undertone. The palate opens with vanilla and caramel, then tropical fruit and raisins that fade gently. The finish remains smooth and composed — a grain whisky that makes no grand gestures but delivers consistent, honest work.
