Glen Elgin 2011 Moscatel Finish — A Hidden Gem

This Glen Elgin 2011 is a remarkable discovery from Craft Spirits and Berry Bros & Rudd Friends. Found during BB&R's annual spirits showcase in London, where importers worldwide select casks, this bottling was literally discovered in a stairwell corner—nearly overlooked—but proved to be an exceptional find.

Production and Composition

This 14-year-old Speyside single malt began life in a bourbon cask before finishing in a Moscatel cask. Bottled at cask strength (54.4% ABV) without colouring or chill-filtration, this 700ml release captures the full character of both cask influences. The bourbon and Moscatel combination delivers a full, sweet, and richly textured whisky.

Tasting Profile

On the nose: fig jam, raisins, plums, maple syrup and dark fruit with hints of vanilla and burnt sugar. The palate reveals caramelised pears, Moscatel sweetness, figs and raisins with a buttery mouthfeel. The finish lingers with chocolate, liquorice and black pepper.

For Whom?

This bottling is crafted for enthusiasts of full-bodied, sweet whisky's. The Moscatel finish adds a luxurious, refined dimension to classic Speyside character. A genuine recommendation for collectors seeking something distinctive.
