The 2013 Staoisha from Bunnahabhain is a rare and highly sought-after single malt from Islay's remote north coast. Bottled at natural cask strength (63.1% ABV), this 11-year-old expression represents one of the distillery's most coveted releases. Staoisha is the trade name for Bunnahabhain's peated malt – a style that contrasts sharply with the typically unpeated character the distillery is known for, yet produces some of Islay's most forceful smoky whisky.

Production & Maturation

Bottled by Signatory as a K&L Wine Merchants exclusive, this whisky has matured in a first-fill hogshead cask. Bunnahabhain's distinctive tall stills gather dense smoke around the distillery's naturally briny character, creating a spirit that is both intensely maritime and deeply peated. After nearly twelve years in barrel, this powerful distillate has evolved into a remarkably complex and sophisticated expression, unworked by excessive oak yet full of depth and character.

Tasting Profile

The nose reveals malty, salty, briny notes with prominent smoke. The palate delivers caramel and malt supported by salt, smoke, and tarry characteristics. The finish is peppery and smoky with persistent salt and tar notes that linger beautifully.
