The Banff distillery, located in the Speyside region of Scotland, was founded in 1863 by James McKilligan & Co. The distillery has a tumultuous history, experiencing several fires and even being bombed during World War II. Ultimately, it ceased operations in 1983 and was later demolished, with the last remaining warehouse succumbing to fire in 1991. Ownership passed to the Distillers Company Limited, but the legacy of Banff whisky remains in the hands of collectors due to its scarcity. With a production history that included a variety of expressions aged from 18 to 42 years, Banff was known for its rich and complex character. The distillery utilized traditional methods with a focus on quality, resulting in whiskies with notes of fig and sherry on the nose. The palate revealed a medley of fruit, spices, plum, citrus, and pepper, culminating in a finish that combined sherry, malt, sweetness, and spices. Notable expressions include the Banff 32 Years - 1976 and Banff 42 Years - 1975 MoS Diamonds, which are highly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors alike.
