Airdrie Distillery, located in the Lowland region of Scotland, was founded in 1780 by James Scoullar. This distillery played a significant role in the early whisky industry but was unfortunately closed in 1852. Despite its brief operation, Airdrie contributed to the burgeoning reputation of Lowland whiskies during a formative time in Scotch whisky history. The distillery was known for its production of lighter, more accessible whiskies typical of the Lowland style. Although it is no longer operational, Airdrie whiskies were characterized by a flavor profile that included sweet notes of honey and caramel, complemented by subtle peat smoke. The tasting experience often revealed oiliness with hints of nuts, fruit, and sweet vanilla, making it a distinctive choice among its contemporaries. Airdrie remains a point of interest for whisky historians and enthusiasts, despite its closure over 170 years ago.
