Hazelburn is a single malt Scotch whisky produced at Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown, Scotland. The name pays homage to one of Campbeltown's many lost distilleries — the original Hazelburn distillery was established in 1825 but ceased production in the 1920s. Springbank first produced the modern Hazelburn in 1997, and it was officially introduced into their portfolio in 2005, reviving a proud piece of Campbeltown's rich whisky heritage. What sets Hazelburn apart within the Springbank portfolio is its triple distillation process, which gives it a notably smoother and lighter character compared to its stablemates. The range is entirely unpeated, making it the most approachable of the three Springbank expressions. Hazelburn is matured in a variety of cask types, including bourbon barrels, sherry casks, and oloroso casks, resulting in expressions with layers of fruit, malt, and gentle sweetness. Key bottlings include the 10 Year Old bourbon cask matured expression and the richly sherried 8 Year Old Oloroso Cask Matured release. Despite being considered the "sleeper" of the Springbank family, Hazelburn has steadily built a loyal following among whisky enthusiasts who appreciate its understated elegance. Releases such as the 15 Year Old have earned recognition as underrated gems, offering exceptional quality and complexity at their price point.
