Tips for good tasting notes
A good review describes three elements:
The nose
What do you smell? Think of fruit, flowers, wood, smoke, spices, sweet, etc.
The palate
What do you taste on your tongue? Is it sweet, bitter, spicy? Which flavours do you recognise?
The finish
How does the whisky end? Short or long? Warm or cool? Which flavours linger?
Example review
"Nose: honey and vanilla with a hint of dried fruit. Palate: creamy and sweet, with some oak and a subtle smokiness. Finish: long and warm, with lingering tones of caramel."
No inspiration? Compare with familiar flavours: "reminds me of toffee" or "smells like a campfire". There's no right or wrong – just describe what you experience!
