First Steps

In a few simple steps you'll get the most out of WhiskyCircle. This guide helps you get started.

Setting up your account

Complete your profileGo to Settings → Profile. Add a profile photo, choose a username and write a short bio. Other enthusiasts can find you more easily this way.

Set your preferencesIndicate which whisky styles you prefer: smoky, fruity, sweet or spicy. This helps with recommendations.

Enable notificationsReceive alerts about new events near you, responses to your reviews and activity from friends.

Adding your first whisky

Your collection is the heart of your WhiskyCircle profile. Here's how to add your first whisky:

Search for the whiskyUse the search bar at the top of the app. Type the name of the whisky, for example "Lagavulin 16".

View the detailsClick on the whisky to open the detail page. Here you'll see information about the distillery, age, ABV and reviews from others.

Add to your collectionClick the + icon. Choose whether you've tasted the whisky, own it or want to add it to your wishlist.

Can't find a whisky? Use the feedback button to request it. We regularly expand our selection.

Writing your first review

Reviews help others find the perfect whisky. Plus: the more you review, the better we can determine your taste profile for recommendations.

Open the whiskyGo to the detail page of a whisky you've tasted.

Click "Write review"You'll find this button below the whisky information.

Give a scoreRate the whisky with 1 to 5 stars.

Describe your experienceTell what you tasted. Think about: nose, palate and finish. Feel free to compare with familiar flavours.
Writing tasting notes

A good review describes what you smell (the nose), what you taste (the palate) and how the whisky finishes (the finish). For example: "Nose of honey and vanilla, palate of dried fruit with a hint of smoke, long warm finish."

Discovering events

One of the most enjoyable parts of WhiskyCircle is discovering whisky events. Here's how to find events:

Go to Discover → EventsHere you'll see all upcoming events, sorted by date.

Filter by locationUse the filters to find events near you.

Sign upClick on an event for details and use the RSVP button to sign up.

Check in on the dayScan the QR code at the event to check in. You'll automatically earn a stamp if the business has a stamp card!

Installing the app

WhiskyCircle is a Progressive Web App (PWA). This means you can install it on your phone without using the App Store or Play Store:

Open WhiskyCircle in your browserGo to whiskycircle.app in Safari (iPhone) or Chrome (Android).

Add to home screeniPhone: tap the share icon → "Add to Home Screen". Android: tap the menu → "Add to Home screen".

Open the appYou'll now find a WhiskyCircle icon on your home screen. The app opens fullscreen, just like a real app!

Your personal guide

At WhiskyCircle you get a virtual whisky expert as your personal guide. There are 27 guides available, each with their own speciality and personality. Your guide rotates automatically, so you always get new perspectives and recommendations. View all guides on the Guides page.

Privacy & visibility

Your profile is public by default – everyone can see your collection and reviews. Prefer a bit more privacy? In Settings you can make your profile private, so only your friends see your activity. You can also set per bottle whether it should remain private.
