Glen Albyn
Highland, Scotland Β· Opgericht in 1846 - 1983
Glen Albyn distillery, founded in 1846 by James Sutherland, is located in the Scottish Highlands near the Caledonian Canal, close to Loch Ness. The distillery was part of a region characterized by its rich whisky heritage and was owned by the Distillers Company Limited until its closure in 1983. Although the distillery is now demolished, it was once known for its unique positioning between the Highlands and the Northern Highlands, contributing to its distinctive character. Glen Albyn was relatively small, equipped with a single wash still and a spirit still, but it was known for its exceptional water source from Loch Ness. The distillery produced single malt whiskies that were celebrated for their complex flavor profiles, featuring notes of fruit, banana, raisin, and sherry on the nose, with a palate that revealed herbs, spices, heather, and floral undertones. Notable expressions include the G&M - Glen Albyn 70cl and aged variants such as the Glen Albyn 40 Years - 1965 and Glen Albyn 26 Years - 1975, showcasing the depth of flavor characteristic of this historical distillery.
