WildRye Distilling was founded in 2013 with a straightforward question: what would a real Montana bourbon taste like? The answer came from local sourcing—corn from a family farm that has worked the same land for generations. This Bourbon Barrel Rye was distilled in Montana's propane-fired Vendome pot stills and matured in ex-bourbon barrels, with water drawn from a local spring. Four years in Five Drops bourbon casks yields a full-bodied, oily spirit with a youthful, bread-forward nose where corn dominates. The palate delivers traditional rye character: peppercorn, cinnamon, and black tea, finishing dry and without sweetness. This is a whisky that feels rougher and more honest than expected—no smoothing tricks, just solid craft work from the Northern Rockies.
