Smögen is a Swedish single malt whisky distillery founded in 2009 by Pär Caldenby, located on a farm near the coastal town of Hunnebostrand in western Sweden. The distillery produced its first distillation in August 2010, with the results bottled in November 2013 under the name 'Primör' — a vatted malt that marked the beginning of Smögen's journey into the world of craft whisky. From the outset, this has been a deeply personal, hands-on operation: every drop of Smögen Whisky has been distilled and blended by Pär Caldenby personally. Smögen is a small-volume distillery, producing under 100 casks per year, yet it has earned a remarkable reputation for quality and character. The distillery is known for its punchy, coastal, and smoky style — often compared to Islay single malts — and has embraced heritage barley varieties such as Golden Promise and Maris Otter. This commitment to artisanal, flavour-driven production has placed Smögen among the most respected craft distilleries in the world of new-world malts. Smögen's reputation has attracted the attention of renowned independent bottlers, including Adelphi, who selected a Smögen 10-year-old to celebrate their 30th anniversary.
