Lough Gill Distillery is an Irish single malt whiskey producer located on the historic Hazelwood Estate in County Sligo, Ireland. The distillery sits on a 100-acre estate that includes the 18th-century Hazelwood House, a listed historic landmark, on the wooded shores of Lough Gill lake. The distillery was founded in 2014 and has since established itself as part of the growing craft Irish whiskey movement in the west of Ireland. The distillery introduced its whiskey portfolio to the world under the Athrú brand, focusing on single malt Irish whiskey with a distinct character rooted in the Sligo landscape. In 2022, the distillery was acquired by the American spirits giant Sazerac Company — known for brands such as Buffalo Trace — drawn by the site's historical significance and the cultural richness of Ireland. Following the acquisition, Sazerac rebranded the operation as Hawk's Rock Distillery in 2025, with master distiller Helen Mulholland leading whiskey production. While the Lough Gill name has since been retired, its legacy lives on as the foundation of what is now one of the more notable distillery investments in Irish whiskey in recent years.
